What readers said

I absolutely love this book! The pictures are colorful but not overwhelming. This is great for my son who will lose focus quickly. My daughter loves the rhyming and flow of the words. So far she has turned it into three different songs. We can also appreciate seeing mixed families. Finding books that reflect my children can be difficult. This book is a total win.

This book is just too cute! It really has a nice way of going into the inquisitive mind of a toddler. I cannot wait to share it with my Niece!

Absolutely thrilled with this purchase! It is clear that so much thought and creativity is filling each page. Can’t wait to see what little Maribelle does on her future adventures!

The why of the work

Repetitive lines allow young readers to anticipate words and phrases. This boosts their confidence and helps reinforce vocabulary, improve memory, teach language structure, and foster decoding skills. Jenaliegh uses the questions “What’s that? What can it be?” in repetition to introduce each family member and object. This creates a predictable pattern for young listeners and readers, encouraging them to engage and read along.

Rhyme adds a melodic component to the text that further engages readers and listeners. Music and language activate different parts of the brain, and using them together strengthens language acquisition. Rhyme is used in the book to playfully describe each object found during Maribelle’s discoveries.

Pointing is a powerful pre-language gesture. It is an important communication tool used to engage others through joint attention. This key gesture helps little learners convey wants and needs, make requests, or ask questions. Pointing is incorporated throughout the illustrations in the book, and tips are provided for caregivers on how to encourage its use.
